Building a Scalable Identity for Brand Expansion
The launch of Grisly Pear’s Midtown location presented an opportunity to evolve the brand while preserving its core identity. Expanding into a more upscale market required a refined brand expression that could resonate with a higher-end audience without alienating existing patrons.
The challenge was to create a visual identity that felt distinctly New York while honoring the owners’ Scottish and Irish heritage. This identity needed to be flexible enough to scale across physical and digital touchpoints, from signage and merchandise to promotional materials, while also informing a refreshed look for the original Greenwich Village location.
Multi-Channel Brand Management
I led the creative strategy and brand development for the Midtown launch, designing a logo and visual system that balanced cultural authenticity with modern appeal. I established a comprehensive style guide and created extensible assets to ensure consistency across signage, merchandise, marketing collateral, and venue-specific applications.
In addition, I produced and managed the printing of all branded materials, including staff and retail apparel, signage, the front awning, menus, tickets, free drink cards, and more. I worked directly with printers and vendors to ensure the highest quality at the best value for the client.
My role ensured the new identity maintained the brand’s heritage while appealing to a broader, upscale audience, providing a scalable framework that could evolve with future locations and refresh the original venue’s brand expression.

The refreshed brand identity successfully positioned the Grisly Pear Midtown as an elevated yet approachable comedy destination, helping attract a more upscale audience while staying true to the club’s roots. The cohesive visual system scaled across signage, menus, apparel, tickets, and promotional materials, supported by a clear brand style guide that ensured consistency. As the venue gained momentum featuring performances from many well-known and nationally recognized comedians, the success of the Midtown identity informed a refreshed logo for the Greenwich Village location, strengthening cohesion across the growing Grisly Pear brand.
